Wilson & Reeder, eds. (2005): Comments: Separated provisionally as a full family (Colobidae) by Groves (1989); a subfamily of Cercopithecidae according to Groves (2001c). On the name of this subfamily, see Delson (1976), and Brandon-Jones (1978). Divided into two tribes, Colobini (African taxa) and Presbytini (Asian taxa) by McKenna and Bell (1997)
David Nicolson - ITIS Data Development Coordinator: ICZN Opinion 1202 (1982:91-94) gives priority to Colobinae Jerdon 1867 over Presbytinae Gray 1825 whenever they are applied to the same family group taxon; Brandon-Jones (1978:69-70) further notes that Colobinae Jerdon 1867 is to be retained over Semnopithecidae Owen 1843 on the basis of ICZN Article 40. As noted by the parenthetical '(1825)' after Colobinae Jerdon 1867, this name has official priority of the earlier 'replaced' name, from 1825
